Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects irregularities of the teeth and jaws. Treatment involves using a variety of appliances to move teeth to a better position by applying gentle forces.
Braces can be used to successfully treat a range of issues from crooked, crowded, overly spaced and twisted teeth to more serious malocclusions (upper and lower teeth not biting together properly) and misalignments.
We offer orthodontics to both children and adults. It’s a common misconception that braces are only beneficial to children. Adults can improve their smiles with a host of different orthodontics, some of which are barely noticeable so you can go about your daily lives without anyone knowing that you are having orthodontic treatment.
Children under the age of 18 are eligible for orthodontics under the NHS. These treatments include fixed braces, removable braces and functional braces. When we assess your child for NHS treatment, we use a system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). This helps us to grade the need for orthodontics. If they score highly, we can then offer treatment through the NHS.
However, if your child does not qualify for NHS treatment or would prefer to have a more discreet solution than fixed metal braces, we can offer clear braces privately.
