ROOT CANAL TREATMENTS

At Oradent Dental Care, our dental clinicians will complete a thorough initial examination of your teeth to determine whether a dental veneer or dental crown would be the most appropriate restorative care for your tooth. As part of your initial assessment, an x-ray of the area will be taken to assess the extent of infection and create a treatment plan from there.

Endodontic therapy (RCT) is the best restorative treatment to alleviate pain and sensitivity from your tooth, it involves removing infected pulp from the tooth and disinfecting it to prevent the infection from spreading. Our goal is to save the tooth before the infection spreads and requires alternative treatment such as an extraction. Infections can occur from decay, a deep filling or trauma to the tooth.

If the tooth is complex and out of scope for a general dentist, we can refer you to a root canal specialist or see one of our general dentists with special interest in endodontics.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT (RCT) IN 3 STEPS

Assessment

An xray will be taken to check the root canal System and the extent of any infection or other pathology

Emergency treatment may be performed to get you out of pain, if needed

Treatment Stage 1

The infected pulp or damaged tissue will be removed with local anaesthetic for numbing applied for your comfort. The root canal will be disinfected with an antibacterial solution, this will also relieve any pain experienced. Next, a temporary filling is placed until the next appointment stage to seal and protect the tooth.

Treatment Stage 2

At the final RCT stage, the tooth should be settled from the last visit. The temporarily sealing will be removed and replaced with a permanent filling material to prevent the infection from recurring. After the completion of the root canal therapy, it is generally advised to cover the tooth with a dental crown for additional strength and normal function restoration.

At Oradent Dental Care, we offer 0% finance plans over 12 months, so you can get the treatment you need without any financial stress.

FAQs About RCT

A successfully treated tooth can last many years or even a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, especially when protected with a crown.

Most people recover within a few days, with mild tenderness settling within a week. Normal activities can usually be resumed the same or next day.

In many cases, yes, especially for back teeth. A dental crown helps protect the treated tooth from fracture and extends its lifespan.

Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until it is fully restored and refrain from hard or sticky foods for a few days. Maintain good oral hygiene but brush gently around the area.

Yes, root canal treatment is often worth the cost as it saves your natural tooth, preserves chewing function and prevents the need for extraction or replacement. Saving your natural tooth is better than losing your tooth!

Both NHS and private root canal treatments are clinically safe and effective. Private treatment may offer shorter waiting times, advanced techniques and specialist care options.

If cost is a concern, NHS treatment may be available at a lower fixed fee. If treatment is delayed or declined, extraction may be offered as an alternative to relieve pain. If your tooth is too complex for a general dentist then an NHS referral can be made for a specialist.
