FAQs About NHS Treatment

An NHS dentist is a dental professional who provides treatment funded by the National Health Service (NHS), offering essential dental care at standardised, government-set prices.

An NHS practice is a dental clinic contracted with the NHS to deliver dental treatments under NHS guidelines and fee bands.

Certain patients are entitled to free NHS dental care including children under 18, full-time students under 19, pregnant women, new mothers (within 12 months) and those receiving qualifying benefits.

Most NHS dental care does not require a referral. Patients can contact an NHS dental practice directly to request registration or an appointment.

You can register by contacting an NHS dental practice that is accepting new NHS patients. Registration usually happens when you attend your first appointment.

NHS dental care covers clinically necessary treatments such as check-ups, X-rays, fillings, extractions, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and dentures.

Yes. The NHS helps maintain oral health by covering essential dental treatments required to keep teeth and gums healthy and functional.

Waiting times vary depending on location and availability. In some areas, registration may be immediate, while in others there may be a waiting period. Contact your nearest Oradent NHS Practice to register.

If no local NHS dentists are accepting patients, you can use the NHS website, contact NHS 111 or consider private dental care while continuing to check for NHS availability.

NHS dental services include routine examinations, preventive care, restorative treatments and emergency dental care provided under NHS fee bands.

Yes, NHS dental appointments are covered, though most adults pay a set fee depending on the treatment band unless they qualify for free care.

Find a local NHS dental practice accepting new patients and contact them directly. Registration is confirmed when you book or attend your first NHS appointment.

You usually need proof of identity and address. If you qualify for free NHS dental care, you may also need evidence of benefits, pregnancy, or exemption certificates.

You can search for NHS dentists using the NHS website’s “Find a Dentist” tool or contact NHS 111 for guidance on practices near you. Oradent also offers NHS treatments at select locations.
