At Oradent Dental Care, our dental clinicians will complete a thorough initial examination of your teeth to determine the most suited type of tooth removal technique for you. A dental extraction is a procedure in which a dentist removes a tooth from its socket in the jawbone.

A tooth extraction may be needed if a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, infected, overcrowded, or impacted (such as wisdom teeth).

The procedure itself is usually not painful because local anesthesia is used. Some discomfort or soreness may occur after the extraction, which can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication.

Initial healing typically takes a few days, while complete healing may take one to two weeks, depending on the complexity of the extraction.

Avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, touching the extraction site, and eating hard or spicy foods for at least 24–48 hours to promote proper healing.
